New here. I just wanted put my thoughts out there on turn by turn navigation. First I have tried a lot of digital phones. The instinct, the HTC Touch Diamond, just among a few. I also travel a lot so GPS navigation in any form is a bonus to me. I find myself in cities just long enough to get lost in.

Each phone I have played with in the past had turn by turn on them. I have to say I wasn't too impressed. While it was nice to get notified of traffic, contruction and then to get an updated route....it took too long to update and even still it would get "stuck", which is the only way i can explain it.

Somewhere it would get in its digital head that I was off track though I was turning around due to a traffic or construction. Then it would try to reroute me....and more times then not it wouldn't route me correctly. Then there is the time to have to software load. While this may be a hardware issue the iPhone map is lightening fast to others I have tried. So a little inaccuracy is acceptable. Afterall when you are lost you don't want to wait 5 minutes for the GPS to load and thereby getting evern further lost during those 5 minutes. The iPhone I open and BLAM! its there.

As for accuracy it has to be a couple things. The antenna and software in the phone. Not so sure its Google Maps. The HTC Diamond uses Google Maps and its EXTREMELY accurate....within milliseconds of you making a turn its there. IN fact the Diamond will tell you how many satillettes its tracking at the time, and I have had up to 10. Still it takes a while for this to open and get a fix...a while being about 5-8 minutes which is FOREVER when you are trying to get somewhere.

Personally the iPhone is great as is. Turn by Turn may be a nice feature but I have used several other products out there and the iPhone is a better use for me. So if you need to the function and have time then turn by turn is for you, but if you are rushing from city to city, meeting to meeting, then the iPhone is a better fit.
