Verizon iPhone UPDATE: Will Verizon finally announce the iPhone?
Exactly one month from today, Ivan Seidenberg, CEO for Verizon, will deliver the opening keynote speech at the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, NV. Seidenberg will give his CES keynote address at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 6, 2011 in the Hilton Center. CES is known for unveiling the latest consumer technology products at its tradeshow. Which leads me to wonder, could Seidenberg be opening the show with news that a Verizon iPhone is on the horizon? Rumors have surrounded Verizon picking up the iPhone for some time now. At this point it is starting to seem like an urban legend. CES would be the perfect time and place to make an announcement that would start off the tradeshow with a bang! He is said to “highlight company’s vision for its LTE 4G wireless technology.” Maybe that is secret code for “We are going to finally admit that yes, Verizon has picked up the iPhone.” If Verizon does pick up the iPhone, what does that mean for us, the consumer? For current Verizon customers and customers unhappy with AT&T, this could be the break they have been waiting for. Where there is competition, especially in today’s economy, the customer reaps the benefits. Apple has never been keen on the idea of sharing their market with others. They have always been in a league of their own. So, I’m predicting that the price of the iPhone will probably remain the same across the board. We are most likely to find the biggest difference in the plans. AT&T offered its customers more data plan options this year. Could this have been a decision preempted by a partnership they knew was coming? At this time both Verizon and AT&T plans are very similar if not virtually the same. I will be interested to see how that will change when they have to compete with each other. Bottom line, everyone loves the iPhone and if Seidenberg gives us the opening keynote we hope he does, this could mean major changes in the iPhone industry.
What do you think? Is the Verizon iPhone a Myth or a soon to be Fact?
MacDailyNews just released an article stating they have a credible source giving them specific information showing the rumors of a Verizon iPhone are in fact true. The Verizon iPhone should appear shortly after Christmas, which goes along with the theory of Ivan Seidenburg launching the product at the opening keynote for CES on January 6th. Verizon has held management training sessions where management had the new iPhone LTE-capable phones in their hands to learn on. In fact, Verizon iPhones are currently being shipped to warehouses in preparation of the release. The phones will be available immediately once the formal announcement has been made. Verizon plans to market the phone as the ONLY LTE iPhone on the market and will use that as its primary marketing strategy.
Verizon iPhone on the Horizon?
It certainly appears that way. If you’re a fan of the iPhone but haven’t had the opportunity to own one because of their agreement with AT&T, your wishes may soon come true…if you’re a Verizon customer that is!
