Enable Tethering and MMS on iPhone 3G S, iPhone 3G
Submitted by Michael Johnston on June 19, 2009 - 11:23am.

So that super easy "hack" to enable tethering on the 3G we posted totally works on the 3G S. Simply open this link on your iPhone 3G S (same link we posted before) and install the profile. Boom, tethering!
Of course many have asked about enabling MMS and there's a solution for that too! The only caveat is that it requires a bit of actual work on your part. You'll need to tweak an iTunes preference file and a GSM phone with MMS capabilities. Aaron Krill has all the details on enabling MMS + tethering on both iPhones, so check that out and be sure to let us know the results!

Worked for me yesterday
As a bonus, I now have the camera icon within my text message window also. I have not yet had a chance to test this out but it appears that MMS works with this from this link:

My plan is to load the file whenever I need it then delete when done.
Still love you Micheal. LOL
What about syncing to iTunes
NO!
I did exactly as stated in the write-up (3G running 3.0)
It took about 1 hour for the AT&T system to make the adjustments.
CLUE: Look for an email from AT&T stating that you made changes to the NON-iPhone. When you see that email, put the SIM back into the iPhone turn it on and you have MMS!
F'n AMAZING
Thank you

I'm on a family plan with the family messaging which brings MMS, video, and SMS messaging. I tried this method in this post and it didn't work for me because ATTwireless didn't recognize the model of phone i was using so I changed it myself to the crappy Nokia 6126 or whatever.
I called AT&T and they said they needed to change the IMEI from my iPhone to the Nokia's to get MMS working. I then asked if this new IMEI switch or whatever would work back on my iphone and they said that iPhone's MMS is disabled until next month.
I don't know if they "fixed" this little hack or whatever, but i'm getting confused.
I DO have the little camera next to the text box though, so at least I have a little improvement.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Surprisely enough, it worked. This is awesome haha.
ahh...well. No joy.
Found a fix to the visual voicemail
This will turn on your visual voicemail again. My original info in the APN field was wap.cingular.
This hack appears to disable Visual Voicemail. However, there’s a way to bring it back: On your iPhone, go to Settings > General > Network > Cellular Data Network. Under “Visual Voicemail,” there’s a field called APN. Enter this text in that field: acds.voicemail
Worked for me so hope it works for you also....
The fact that it is listed under "Overage Pay-Per-Use" is a little scary. I really have no idea what the number means, but I have a feeling the tethering is being logged.
Or it could be something else entirely...
@kevin. no i don't see that and i have used tethering twice for about an hour each if not more
However, I'm 99% sure that the first generation phone cannot use MMS due to some kind of hardware restrictions. At least according to Apple, but that always sounded kind of bogus to me.
I called about 10 times and each of the representatives checked all of their systems to make extra sure that I was provisioned correctly and that there was no MMS Opt out feature on my account.
They must have programming that detects an iPhone IMEI and blocks it from sending MMS's. Im gonna switch my SIM into a non-iPhone in a little bit to check and see if its that or if they're blocking it if you have the iPhone Data Plan on there.
Has anyone gotten an iPhone to work with a regular MediaNet plan?

Tethering 2 - MMS 1
Anyone have any ideas? Tethering works fine on both.
Thanks.
