Russia To Get iPhone 3G On October 3rd
Negotiations have been finalized and a launch date has been set. It’s official: the iPhone 3G will go on sale in Russia on October 3rd. The device will be locked to the nation’s largest wireless carriers, MTS, Vimpelcom, and MegaFon, and will be available through multiple retailers, including Eldorado, M.video, and Tekhnosila.
“All retailers will begin sales of iPhone in Russia at the same time, during the night between Oct. 2 and Oct. 3. Our company will be also selling them,” Nadezhda Senyuk, a PR director at retail chain Tekhnosila, said by telephone.
Eldorado has estimated overall sales of the handset in Russia to reach around 150,000 before the end of this calendar year, of which they hope to sell around 15,000.
They will offer the iPhone 3G in both 8GB and 16GB models for 22,999 roubles ($923.6) and 26,999 roubles ($1,084) respectively, the same prices the carriers will be offering the device for, but with no contract.
