Push Notification Server Now Available To All Developers For Testing

In an email sent out earlier today, Apple is inviting all registered iPhone app developers to test their apps with the Apple Push Notification service for the first time. Prior to this, the service was available for testing by just a select few developers. Now Apple has invited all registered developers to the program.

Apple said in the email that Team Agents are now able to log in to the iPhone Developer Program portal and set up a testing environment. They also encourage developers to utilize their Apple Bug Reporter tool, as well as participate in their Apple Developer Forums to communicate with other developers using the service.

Apple’s email to developers:

Apple’s Push Notifications service will offer developers an alternative to the background processes that have been forbidden by Apple’s SDK and allow applications to listed to messages pushed from Apple’s servers after being quit instead of remaining active in the background and hogging battery power.
