O2 iPhone Sales Spike After Price Drop In UK

O2's price cut last week seems to have been a success. After lowering the its price by £100 last week, sales of iPhones have increased drastically, causing some stores to sell out on that very same day. Some analysts believe the price cut was necessary to boost sales ahead of the launch of the 3G model to clear out inventory.
Ben Wood of CCS Insight said: "The lack of iPhone subsidies has been one of the primary barriers to its adoption. In European markets where the iPhone is available, most potential buyers will have regularly upgraded their mobile phone to high-tier models and rarely paid for the hardware."
It appears to have been effective. One Carphone Warehouse employee noted that while before the price change they had been selling around 30 per day at their flagship store on Oxford Street, London, sales doubled to 60 per day. They are expecting new shipments to arrive over the weekend.
