Nintendo on the App Store, Unofficially: Mario Kart Ripped Off
iOS has had its fair share of unofficial ports of various console games, including PC, of which some have been pulled while others have remained in the realms of the App Store. If Mario Kart was down your alley, Nintendo isn’t approaching the App Store anytime soon, so developer, Shanghai Taomee Network Technology Co.,Ltd. has taken the cue and released their take on the popular game. But it’s not really their take, it’s pretty blatant.
According to the Touch Arcade forums, the game was released today and has been pretty popular among the forum’s members. Mole Kart is $2.99, and it’s just waiting for Apple to pull it due to a claim by Nintendo, for it’s a blatant clone of the game development company’s acclaimed racer, Mario Kart.
Throughout the various menus, you can see the resemblance to Mario Kart on Wii. The levels, the powerups and a lot of other things seem to be copied completely, however Nintendo’s iconic characters aren’t the stars of this game. The controls have actually been reported to decent, a change from the usual, ideal clone which would be horribly made to be monetized. However, championship mode is not apparent. I wouldn’t say that these developers didn’t give a go at monetization, though, as they’ve included in-app purchases to buy a few extra tracks.
Expect the game to be pulled sometime soon, so if you’re peaked by Mario Kart, your want, if any, has been fulfilled for iOS at the moment in the likes of Mole Kart.
