Next iPhone To Have 5 Megapixel Camera?
According to a somewhat-questionable source, OmniVision Technologies, the company that makes the camera components for the current iPhone 3G and 3GS, has been contracted again to make the camera components for the next generation of iPhone. The interesting thing about this source’s claim is that they are saying that the camera component will be bumped from 3.2 megapixels to a whopping 5.
The statement was tucked in to comments that the company’s orders would be increasing during 2010.
OmniVision Technologies is expected to see CMOS image sensor (CIS) orders for Apple’s iPhone devices grow to 40-45 million units in 2010 from 20-21 million estimated this year, according to industry sources. The sources said OmniVision has secured 5-megapixel CIS orders for the next-generation iPhone model, which will hit shelves sometime during the second half of 2010.
