Networks Prepare for iPad, ABC and CBS to Offer Ad-Supported Content
According to a report today on the Wall Street Journal [subscription required], CBS and ABC and preparing their TV shows to be available on the iPad free of charge. ABC plans to stream its shows — with commercial breaks — in a dedicated iPad app, while CBS plans to offer content via an iPad formatted web page.
CBS expects to have full episodes of “Survivor” ready by the Saturday iPad release date, but says they are working very hard to make as much of thier programming available as possible. “Over time, it’ll be the same as online,” said Neil Ashe, president of CBS Interactive.
ABC’s iPad application is reported to stream episodes similar to ABC.com. The app should have a large number of programs available on Saturday, though there’s no word on exactly which shows will be ready.
