More On The Quake 3 iPod Touch Video

The video of two iPod touches running a Quake 3 death match the other day caused a lot of excitement. GameCyte followed up on the story earlier today, sitting down with the programmers responsable for making it happen. For those of you wondering if it was faked, they explain clearly that it was real, and a little on how they did it.
Cameron and Marcia Tofer of Hermitworks are the two individuals you have to thank for the porting. They impressively got the software up and running in just "Between eight and twelve hours" using jailbroken iPod touches, no SDK and a little modified code to get it working on the accelerometers.
In the video, the game is being hosted on one iPod and played over a local wireless network. They added that it would be reasonable to think that a full 64 player match could be possible with this method.
As for those of you asking when and where you can get your hands on it, you're out of luck. There's no public beta being released. They're too busy porting their own game, Space Trader, over to the device. “I’d love to have it by June; we’re just in a kind of porting frenzy right now.â€
