Leaked Matte iPhone Case Was Real?

The photos a few months back of what seemed to be a matte next-generation iPhone case had us pretty convinced that it would be the new look for the iPhone, so we, like others, were surprised when Apple unveiled the still shiny iPhone 3G S. However, a closer look at the FCC filing reveals that the photos may have been legitimate after all.


The FCC released official records yesterday giving the iPhone 3G S it's certification. As it turns out, the FCC ID on the back of the case in the photo (above) correlates with those of the iPhone 3G S in the documents (below).

Since there's really no way anyone could have guessed the FCC ID number for the iPhone 3G S before the documents were released, the only possible answer is that this case was produced by Apple with the initial intention of making it the next case for the iPhone 3G S.

Or...Apple still may offer this in the coming months as an alternative to the shiny cased ones? We will see I guess!
