iFuntastic gets an update (again)

I know we just announced iFuntastic v2, but bitSplit saw all of the comments you folks made and decided to make some quick improvements. If you don't know already, iFuntastic is an iPhone modding GUI for mere mortals. First on the list of improvements is a "news" section of the app where changes are posted. You can rename the app to anything you like, as well. The "Home Screen" can be rearranged much more extensively and .m4p is now a recognized extension. More after the break!

Download iFuntastic from Rapidshare & iPhone Alley. As always, there's no difference, just a choice!

New features:

* iFuntastic will now work when renamed. Previously, the package *had* to be named 'iFuntastic'.
* Carrier logos don't have a special PNG format, after all; regular PNGs will do!
That means you can very easily create your own.

* renamed 'Display Order' to 'Home Screen' and removed restrictions on icon movement.
It turns out that icons can be freely moved about! Made the hidden 'DemoApp' and 'FieldTest'
apps visible and introduced a 'pasteboard' where you can move applications from the Home Screen
to hide them.

* Added '.m4p' as a recognized song file format.
* Added a news feature to the Welocme screen, displaying this info.
* Added more sample logos and ringtones.

The m4p fix is great. Thanks. Things are looking great on the development front. I would love to see the ability to load programs onto the iPhone. Automating the ssh-on-the-iPhone procedures would be insanely helpful.

Funtastic quitting on me

FUntastic is quitting on me for some reason. I hit jailbreak and it counts down till about 120 seconds and then it quits on me. Is there anyway this can be my computer or phones fault or is this the program?

It's nice that we can now rearrange the icons in iFuntastic now, but to be able to change the png files would put this little app over the edge!!

Make sure you're reading the instructions. The phone needs to be restarted into the recovery mode. Do this by holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see the yellow exclamation mark.

It's being worked on quite constantly and the developer is always sifting through your suggestions. Which PNG's are you referring to?

One thing I wish would work on the reorganization of home buttons is if they would stay where I put them.

I wanted to make a neat little border but leave the center empty... apparently that isn't possible, they stayed where I put them, but no vertical gaps were allowed.

I tired doing someting similar to that. I don't think the display plist allows that sort of thing. I think you need to have apps in each space.

you need to put your phone into recovery mode... read the directions

i think he means changing the icons of the apps on the home screen. ex, making the calculator look like a duck.png instead.

First off, you guys are awesome. Thanks for the great app but I am wondering if I am quitting out of iFuntastic too soon. I added five 30 sec ringtone tunes and followed the procedure. The iPhone reboot is fast and I click done and am out of iFuntastic. iTunes, however, is warning me that the phone is syncing and do I really want to quit. I dont but I wait a long time (10 minutes?) Is this right?

I dont think the iTunes sync makes a difference. iTunes quits after the warning but the iPhone update with all changes works flawlessly. Thanks!

can we get the option soon to change the color of the SMS balloons, and change what the icon looks like on the home screen ( like i have some iphone formated icons but i cant use them or dont know how )

You guys are definitely awesome for developing this. I just tried it; not a glitch (at least so far). but it's easy to navigate and fast. my phone is already activated, and so far no side effects. Everything works.

spacebar stopped working after using ifuntastic

I used this software to add some ringtones and the spacebar and other parts of the lower part of the touchscreen stopped working right afterwards. I had to send it in for repairs and rent a replacement for $30 until it gets fixed. I'd wait a while until playing with this.

You know, I don't think this app could have possibly caused the issue. It's not voodoo, you can't break hardware with it...

It didn't seem to be exclusively a hardware problem, although I restored it to factory defaults several times to no avail. The spacebar seemed to work fine in Safari, but not at all in SMS and other apps. Very weird, but the Apple Genius said he's seen it once before. It may have been just a weird coincidence, but I swear that I didn't do anything to the phone to hurt the hardware and it happened as soon as I installed the ringtones. I just added two short CTU ringtones and one full song (~5MB). The first time I tried, I didn't get it into restore mode fast enough and had to kill the iFuntastic process and restart it. Not sure if that could have been the problem???

I've been searching for other people having similar problem for any reason and haven't been able to find anything.

Same thing happened to me. After a couple of times, it 'took' then worked fine. Keep trying.

Make a PNG thats 20 pixels high with transparent background. You'll want to make a black one and a white one. Michael posted one he did here. I think they can be just as wide as you like, but just remember that the bar is only so small

when you install too many ringtones, it makes all the other data look like nothing, so the ipod doesn't work anymore... i had to do a reset and lose all my pictures.... so yeah, dont go overboard

Wait, huh? Are you sure that you performed the "Finish" step? If you don't do that, iTunes won't be able to access the phone any more.

Someone needs to figure out how to load...

An iFuntastic reqeust

Wow--great work on the new version. I will definitely download and donate!

I also have a feature request that might fit w/ the iFuntastic concept; I don't know how easy it would be to implement.

Is there any way to import the icon for the Address Book widget, place that on the iPhone screen, and link it to the iPhone contacts. I want one-touch access to my contacts, but Apple makes me select phone, then contacts.

If that works, you might be able to put one-touch links to other iPhone content, e.g., a one-touch way to call your spouse, check voicemail, summon Recents or Favorites, go directly to certain iPod content or a designated bookmarked safari page, etc.

Anyway, just a thought on another feature that might be interesting.
