iDream

iDream is an ambient audio relaxation app with many uses. The app comes with 25 stereo sounds which are specially designed to provide a calm environment for sleeping, napping, or just relaxing. It also comes with a color visualizer which can be optionally activated.

When you launch the app, you’re presented with a list of ambiences to choose from. To start listening, choose an ambience and press “Dream”. A timer can be set under “Settings” which will stop the track from playing.

Some of the loops are great, some aren’t so good. It may be a matter of taste, though(and the fact that I don’t particularly care for ambient loops). I did notice that some of the loops aren’t seamless either. Audio will come through the iPhone’s speaker, headphones, or a speaker dock if present. Loops included are:

  • Campfire

  • Country Meadow
  • Country Stables
  • Galleon
  • Gentle Ocean
  • Harbour
  • Hurricane
  • Log Cabin
  • Mangrove Swamp
  • Mountain Stream
  • Ocean Night
  • Pine Forest
  • Quiet Night
  • Rafting
  • Rainforest
  • Rockie Mountains
  • San Francisco
  • Serengeti
  • Severe Thunderstorm
  • Snow Walk
  • Spiritual Sounds
  • Train Ride
  • Train Station
  • Whale Song
  • Wolf Creek

The visualizer isn’t anything to write home about, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The visualizer simply consists of a single color which fills the screen and transitions to other colors over time. The visualizer is optional and can be automatically triggered when you start “Dreaming.”

iDream also comes with several localizations including Spanish, German, Russian, and English.

The good: Easy app to use, comes with 25 stereo ambiance sounds. Timer can be used to shut down later, color visualizer isn’t distracting. Quite a few localizations.

The bad: The loops aren’t all very seamless, although it may not be distracting to everyone. Some of the loops aren’t seamless.

The Bottom line: This app has quite a few great loops which work well for relaxing, sleeping, or whatever else you can think of. For $0.99, it’s definitely worth it if you’re looking for this kind of app.
