Google Removes iPhone-Optomized iGoogle Page

Roughly a year ago Google created an iPhone-optomized version of their iGoogle homepage for easier and more pleasant viewing on an iPhone. Unfortunately, for reasons they haven't disclosed, they have reverted it back to their standard web interfaces for mobile devices, going back to a stripped-down low-bandwidth version. We don't know why they did it, but we're sorry to see it go.

Ya, I just noticed that before I saw this article that it did not look the same. I liked the one that was made for the iPhone.

iGoogle

It's because Android, in their view, will gain most of their development efforts--it's a pure business decision. As a former iPhone, iPhone 3G and happy G1 user, I like that the G1 renders the custom site still--but really, Google, how much effort does it take to just leave it running? None. Which is why it has to be business-related. They just cut a bunch of projects, too, and one might be iPhone app/site development.

I didn't realize it was still accessible on Andriod. That certainly makes a difference.

Also, are we to take it that you've left the iPhone for a G1? Why the switch?

has anyone ever seen a release from Google to explain their decision
