Direct Podcast Downloads Coming In 2.2 Update?

TUAW has received screenshots from a tipster which show what looks to be another new feature in the upcoming iPhone 2.2 Software Update. It now appears that new podcast episodes will be able to be downloaded directly to your iPhone (and possibly iPod touch) without the need to sync with iTunes. According to the tipster, the "Get More Episodes" button doesn't do anything at the moment, although it's likely due to the software's beta status.

Screenshot follows below:

TUAW speculates that this new feature may have motivated Apple's decision to reject Podcaster last month.

I hope so

i would be so freaking happy if they did this.

Apparently so! Excellent first post!

I am quite thrilled as well. It does seem like quite an unexpected feature for them to be working on since the amount of people wanting copy + paste likely outnumbers us podcast addicts. Either way though, I'm psyched.

Brilliant! My computer is very slow and it takes me ages to get all my podcasts. It's a shame that you have to refresh each podcast individually but this feature is still awesome.

Probably WiFi, ONLY!!!

This would be GREAT! The problem is Apple will probably, only make it possible to download Podcasts on WiFi and not Edge or 3G. Just like using the iTunes store or downloading large apps in the App Store.

I use MobileCast on my jailbroken 3G but not everyone has a jailbroken iPhone so this will be a Great alternative for everyone with an iPhone.
