Apple Denies Radio App For Too Much Bandwidth Usage

Apple may be tightening their restrictions for apps that use a lot of bandwidth in the App Store. According to iPhone app developer Return7, Apple has rejected their most recent version update to their internet radio app CastCatcher [App Store]. The reason they gave was that the app used too much bandwidth.

CastCatcher Internet Radio cannot be posted to the App Store because it is transferring excessive volumes of data over the cellular network, which as outlined in the iPhone SDK Agreement section 3.3.15, is prohibited

What's strange about this is that the developer claims the new update doesn't use any more bandwidth than the previous version, nor does he think it uses any more bandwidth than similar apps in the App Store, but the current version of the app hasn't been taken down.

While it's odd that they would react this way to the update, it's not especially surprising that Apple is suddenly cracking down on bandwidth-intensive apps, since there has been much talk as of late about the high demand the increasing number of iPhones is placing on AT&T's data network.
