Angry Birds Rio App
The Angry Bird Rio app was launched early yesterday morning and has already flown to the number one spot on the chart. It was also the biggest launch ever for Finnish company Rovio, maker of the wildly popular Angry Birds game. The release was synced with the Tuesday night world premier of the movie Rio, in which the Angry Birds make a cameo appearance.
Fox is the first studio to partner with Rovio. Angry Birds and Rio were a natural fit, the movie is about a Macaw named Blu who travels to Rio to mate with the last of his kind, Jewel. Jesse Eisenberg and Anne Hathaway provided the voices of the lead roles in Rio along with Jamie Foxx who also provides the voice of a lead role. The movie opens in theaters on April 15.
Angry Birds Rio, similar to the original game, has twists based on the film. In Angry Birds Rio, animal smugglers have kidnapped the Angry Birds and taken them to Rio, where they escape their captors and set out to save their friends, Blu and Jewel.
Rovio CEO Mikael Hed said, “Angry Birds Rio is the most exciting thing to happen to Angry Birds so far. We are glad to bring exciting new gameplay elements and a fresh, thrilling new Angry Birds experience to all our fans worldwide.”
Angry Birds Rio features two episodes and 60 levels. Episodic updates based on the film will be provided throughout the year.
