8GB iPhone, iPod touch End-Of-Life'd in the UK?

Both Carphone Warehouse and UK's exclusive iPhone carrier O2 have announced that both the 8GB iPhone and 8GB iPod touch have reached "end of life" status in the UK. According to a spokesman from Carphone Warehouse, after the £100 sale of iPhones, CW is now completely out of 8GB iPhone stock with no intention of receiving more. Similarly, O2 has stated that, although a few 8GB models may still be available in stores, none remain for sale online. Engadget has received an internal memo from O2 which also states that the 8GB has been EOL'd in the UK.

According to the memo, "Due to the highly successful sales of the Apple 8GB I-Phone [sic], supply chain have today run out of stock & will not be replenishing stock of this product as it has now gone to end of life."

There has been an excess of speculation that a 3G iPhone is immanent and that WWDC will bring on the announcement. Whether the EOL'ing of the 8GB iPhone in the UK is due to a 2nd-gen iPhone, or simply moving up capacities is unknown at this time. Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference is being held from June 9-13 at the Moscone West convention center in San Francisco.
