Apple In-Ear Headphones Now Shipping, Not 100% iPhone Compatible - December 2nd, 2008, 07:10 PM #1 |
![]() Today Apple began shipping the recently announced In-Ear Headphones complete with volume control, microphone, and play/pause controls. When they were unveiled during the iPod nano event, they were announced as an accessory to current iPods. For reasons unknown to us (and many others), the headset's slick in-line volume control buttons don't function on the iPhone. Although it's possible a software update may introduce this functionality for iPhone owners, it may be a hardware limitation. According to Apple, the headphones' mic and center button will still work with the iPhone. From Apple's headphone compatibility page: Mic and Center button supported; volume (+/-) buttons are not supported [via Engadget]

No biggie. As long as they 1) work 2) the mic works 3) the center button works
I'm buying!

I agreee.......as long as the mic and center button works, I can live without volume control. It would be great if they came out with a software update that addressed this issue, but it's not a deal-breaker for me. However, I don't understand why Apple would even develop new headphones that aren't compatible with their newest iPhones?
