iPhone 3G Sold Out In 21 States -    #1

With iPhones in as high a demand as ever, it's not surprising that AT&T and Apple stores in the US are in extremely short supply of iPhone 3Gs. As of 6AM Eastern Time today, both 8 and 16GB models are listed as being unavailable in all Apple Stores of 21 States: Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Utah, Washington and Wisconsin.

Nationwide, about 117 of the 188 Apple Stores across the US were reporting selling out completely, whereas only about 27 say they have all three models in stock.

Apple is telling customers looking to get an iPhone 3G to check the availability at stores after 9PM local time, to make sure that any shipments intended for the next day have already arrived using their iPhone Availability page. If they do, then they suggest getting to the store as soon as possible.

AT&T stores are in even shorter supply, saying that their stores were "virtually" sold out by the end of Friday, and doesn't know when they will receive new packages.

So much for exclusvity, being one of a few people with an iPhone. It won't be "o0o0o00o0 you have an iPhone?". It wil be. "Oh, you have an iPhone too."

AT&T store near me only had phones last Friday for an hour! They were all gone by 9am. The Apple Store, on the other hand, was busy fulfilling orders the entire day. So my idea of going to the AT&T store to miss the longer Apple Store lines didn't quite work out :-(

As of yesterday evening, the Apple Store on Boylston Street in Boston was also out. At least, they had a sign that said, "No iPhone 3G available today".

Bummer. I hope they get plenty back in stock by the time I'm "upgrade eligible" come next month.

I waited in line for over 3 hours last night at Cambridgeside. They were the last in New England with stock. I had to wait as my T-mo contracted ended the night before, I first went to the Peabody store after work and when they were out started calling everyone else. I drove the hour to cambridge and found a line of only about 30 people. However, they were averaging 15-20 minutes per person, so despite arriving before 6, it was 9:15 before I entered the store. I wouldn't have waited so long had I known, but if it's sold out for the next few days it is worth it.

That's a lot more determination than I would ever have when it comes to buying a cell phone. Kudos to you.
