Photos of The iPhone 3G's New Dock -    #1

MacRumors forum user cWeems has posted photos of the iPhone 3G's dock. Sporting a new shape which fits the iPhone 3G's new curved back, the new dock will be sold as a separate accessory, rather than included with the iPhone as it was in the first generation. Read on for photos.

No price has been specified for the dock, but it will likely exceed $30.

Sold separately? Nice.

I just checked Apple's page to see what was included in the box. We don't even get the little plastic insert piece for the universal dock either. The dock? Fine. Not even the $.25 plastic mold to adapt my universal dock. That's a little cheap of them.

I can't remember which but one the three musketeers that got the iPhone early, (I think it was Goatberg), said the new iPhone was not working in several of his old accessories and docks. An adapter will be needed... I have no idea why the dock connector should function any differently than the old iPhone, but that's super lame.

Looks slick! I'll probably get one, if only to minimize the scratches on the black plastic back from laying it down on the table.

Awesome! I like how it shows more of the front of the device than the old docks, and still blends in perfectly with the rest of it. I'm definitely getting one (tho I was anyway).

Each and every one of you are going to buy a case that will make the dock unusable.

For the hard of hearing....... are you using a dock now?

Personally, I won't charge or sync my iPhone without a dock so I don't get any scratches or scuffs on it, so this is a must-buy for me. Apple will probably charge $10 for one, which is a lot more than it should be. If they go over $10 for that, that'll be really pushing it.

Bernie, maintain your cool. Not everyone has to get a case. I'll probably be using an alternative method of scratch protection for much of the time.

Yea, a case is probably more necessary now more than ever... Though I might just wait and see some stress tests on the plastic back before I do anything.

Switching topic: I really don't see why a dock is necessary though, it's nice, but not a necessity.

For the record I used one of those eyeglass cases that you just slide your glasses into. I dropped my iPhone into it and cut the top off just above the clip.

I use an invisible shield and a dock. I'm not terribly upset. I will just buy one of those cheap little plastic inserts whenever they become available. Maybe they already are, I haven't looked yet.
