Blacksn0w Jailbreak & Unlock for iPhone 3G, 3GS Goes Live -    #1

You'll never stop the struggle between Apple and the people who want to hack it, so why bother complaining? As of noon today, giddy jailbreakers can take the next step and go full-on with blacksn0w, the jailbreak+unlock for the latest 05.11.07 baseband (with tethering enabled to boot). Mac and PC versions are available and it works with iPhone OS 3.1.2.

In short, the blackra1n release is alive as well, with both Mac and Windows support and the installation instructions can be found here...

did it just to give it a try.

WOW. I am always amazed how simple people can make these things.

Yet....tethering isn't working. Macbook recognizes the iphone but won't let me turn it on. Since I am a first time mac users (like owned for about a week). I am WAAAAY outside my element.

Hints and advice would be grateful.

So you don't have the switch for tethering on your iPhone or you do?

The switch is there. The jailbreak and unlock were successful.

The network preferences were not recognizing the connection.

BUT...here is an update. Somehow between the office and home it worked. I sat down the type this response and...like magic its working.

I am not sure what I did, but after I posted the original message I reloaded the carrier file, reset network connections, rebooted the phone. I did this twice. It must have worked.

And the plot thickens. A new development after successful tether

I turned off my tether after running for an hour. Why be greedy I have WiFi a home.

But then something made me check it again. So I went to turn the switch back on and got a message "must contact ATT to use tethering". AHHH....great so it doesn't work or they caught me.

Its neither. Appears that I can only get access to the on/off switch if I am connected to the computer. Though you can see the option in the network tab (enable tethering) I can't actually do it until attached to my mac. This wasn't the case before but its something new for sure.

it works just fine now, just not real sure what I did to fix it..persistence?

I have absolutely no idea. I've only enabled tethering pre 3.1 using the carrier hack. I have yet to jailbreak my iPhone because I'm a big baby.

Naw

wouldn't say that. Yet messing around with it. While nice an fun to have something to explore it still ranks high "meh" graph.

Though making my phone untraceable on the networkwpuld be really cool

guess. Jus want to be a gangsta.
