anySIM Released: Free GUI iPhone Unlock - September 16th, 2007, 12:49 AM #1 |
|
This is it, folks. Mere hours after we reported on the update to iUnlock, the iPhone Dev Team has finally released the graphical front-end for it: anySIM. Upload anySIM and support files to your iPhone and run it. You will then be prompted to "Slide to unlock", your iPhone to use any carrier's SIM card, that is. Once you're finished, your iPhone will be freed from AT&T. Seriously guys, it's that easy. Before you install, you'll want to sync your phone so you have a working backup in case anything goes wrong. You'll also need to set up your iPhone to never go to sleep under "General" in the Settings app. It might also be a good idea to plug your iPhone in. anySIM is available from Enjoy your new found freedom! Update: As some of you might have noticed, anySIM has disappeared from AppTapp. According to Conceited Software which maintains the Community Sources, "NullRiver has decided they did not want anySIM.app to be available in the Community Sources list of packages available in Installer.app. They believe it could draw negative attention Installer.app from Apple/AT&T and hinder third party development. Feel free to voice your opinion at #installer.app on Undernet and let us know what you think. The easiest way to get around this is to add Conceited's beta repository and download it from there. You can also download the app directly, here

Can I get anySIM from Installer.app?
NullRiver has decided they did not want anySIM.app to be available in the Community Sources list of packages available in Installer.app. They believe it could draw negative attention Installer.app from Apple/AT&T and hinder third party development. Feel free to voice your opinion at #installer.app on Undernet and let us know what you think. In order to install you must add our beta repository. Follow the instructions here on an easy way to set it up. I would rather have to add a rouge repo then loose my apptapp. |

I tried to put this in the phone using ifuntastic, it shows up and the display, and I am able to launch the app, however it hasn't allowed me to use my sim card (which is a slightly older cingular card Jan. 07) it just kind of slows my iphone down, has this happened to anyone else, how long does it take to work?

unlock failed... att not working now??? - September 16th, 2007, 03:20 AM #8 |
|
I've been activated w/ ATT and using my iPhone for 2 months now. I just installed anySIM, it failed, said it couldn't find...something, and I didn't think too much of it but "Oh well." Now my phone isn't finding the ATT network at all! When I go to Settings->About the network says n/a and there's no signal! Taking my SIM card out and putting it back in isn't helping, nor is resetting the phone. Help! I just want ATT back!

hi when I install anysim and run it I get the slider, then the disclaimer message. When I hit the red button nothing happens. I'm able to hit the home button and return home, but not sure if it did anything...

For those having failed unlocks:
Make sure you don't have a SIM lock. If you do, remove it. Try rebooting the iPhone and then run the application again. If it still doesn't work, try a restore and then run.

People need to remember that unlocking an iPhone for use on another carrier is a hobbyist's pursuit, like over-clocking computers, etc. *Not* for people who want a working and fully supported product. After you unlock your iPhone, you may well have no warranty coverage -- depending on whether or not you can get the iPhone back to original state, and even if you can, you'll have no AT&T service on it which will raise questions at the support level. You'll also lose features like YouTube, Visual Voicemail, and potentially some of the other current and future widget applications.
Further, you'll have no carrier support for the iPhone. And in the States, probably to avoid becoming the target of litigation, and especially since Tmobile is apparently regretting their decision to turn Apple down in the States and are working with them for exclusivity in some EU countries, I've anecdotally heard that if Tmobile finds out you're using an iPhone on their network, they'll kill your SIM card. They even have sort of a fair case for this as they have not built out their EDGE network to support the kind of massive data usage iPhone owners are racking up. I'm sure if this is the case, they'll restore your service once you agree to stop using the iPhone, but you'll go through a hassle and pay to get a new SIM card and reactivation of your account. |
