Open Links In A New Page

Ever since my first iPhone, there was always one feature I thought Safari was lacking; the ability to open links in a new page. I mean, Safari for iPhone let you have multiple pages open, but there was never a way to explicitly open a link in a new page! Every competent desktop browser can do this. Thankfully this feature was finally added in iPhone 3.0. To make it work, simply tap and hold a link to bring up a nice little dialogue which allows you to open the link in a new page. Hooray, perfect for Google searching across multiple sites!

As an added bonus, because 3.0 lets you copy and paste, you can even copy a link for pasting later in the same way. Awesome.

Not so new

I'm pretty sure I remember doing this on my very first 1G iPhone.

I was so happy to see this on 3.0! This was higher on my wish list than copy/paste. Though I do have to admit, I use copy/paste all the time.

Actually 3.0 included all of my wish list items, and I have had an iPhone send the second day they were out (Saturday June 30, 2007 @ 10:10am CT, but who is keeping track???)...
  • Bluetooth headphones
  • syncing calendars with Yahoo
  • open web pages in other pannels

Good feature and unknown before

Thanks for letting us know about the feature that was unknown before.

Nope, before 3.0 it'd just show a little black bubble that says "action."
