Update & Improve Current Location Accuracy In Maps
Submitted by Michael Johnston on March 12, 2008 - 1:51pm.

Apple has posted a support article which links to Skyhook Wireless' wireless access point submission page. The form allows users to submit the location of nearby wireless routers, so long as the router's MAC address is known. Because Skyhook uses wireless access points to determine a user's location, the more access point information they have, the more accurate the location feature becomes.
Currently, Skyhook's technology is used in tandem with Google's My Location service which relies on nearby cellular towers for location information in the iPhone's Maps application. Skyhook's service is also used on the iPod touch.

Interesting. I thought finding where you are in Google Maps only used cell tower triangulation but apparently it used WiFi hotspots as well.
