iPhone 3GS: Importing Videos On A Mac

The most anticipated feature of the iPhone 3G S is arguably the ability to record video. It looks great, and you can post it to YouTube right from your phone! But how do you import the full-quality video? Mac users will probably say "iPhoto," but you may not want to open up such a big app for a quick import. The quickest way we know of is to use the Image Capture app which sees both photos and videos recorded on your iPhone. Just open it up, find the video, drag it into Finder, and there you go!

Windows users can get at their iPhone 3G S videos in Windows Explorer, similar to the way you import photos.

Check out a video we imported below!

Have fun with those cat videos! ;]

Doesn't iPhoto automatically launch?

Whenever I have any new pictures or videos on my iPhone and plug in, iPhoto automatically launches on me. If there is a way to stop this, I'd dearly like to know what it is.

Open Image Capture, go to preferences, and change "When a camera is connected, open:" to "No applications"

Thanks, I'll give it a try. My Kodak digital camera doesn't mount on my desktop when I plug that in though, only shows up in iPhoto. I'll have to see if it still shows up if I have iPhoto open and then plug it in, otherwise I won't be able to leave this setting on.

Doesn't actually download

Hi,

I would love to be able to use Image Capture to get the videos off of my iPhone 3gs, but it does not work. Image Capture shows that there are videos there, but it won't actually download them. It acts like it will, but nothing gets put on the computer, no matter where I try to put it. Dragging and dropping also yields nothing. I am running OS X.5.7 (non intel).

Any thoughts on why this won't work for me?

No idea. I plugged in my iPhone, launched Image Capture and it came up and recognized my iPhone 3GS. I created an iPhone Pics folder on my desktop. I chose that as where to download the stuff to, I checked "delete from phone" in Image Capture options and used "download some". It downloaded both pictures and videos and removed them from my iPhone. I'm running 10.5.7, but I have an intel machine.

Very strange! Try doing a repair permissions and possibly try reinstalling 10.5.7 from the combo updater. http://support.apple.com/downloads/M...7_Combo_Update

somebody help me! I tried to use Image Capture and iPhoto, both don't work.
