System 7 Running On An iPhone

iPod Observer reports that a group of hackers from the MacOS Project have successfully gotten an iPhone to run a modified version of Macintosh System 7. So far they already have a functional desktop, and can eve run a few simple applications from back in the day like MacDraw, MacPaint and the Calculator. It's still a little rough around the edges though, since "shutting down" System 7 crashes the device.

Video: Typing On iPhone With Apple Bluetooth Keyboard

The iPhone's tiny onscreen keyboard is great for texting or browsing the web, but typing much more than that necessitates a standard keyboard. Lucky for us, a solution may soon be on the way. Developer Raif Ackermann has successfully hacked an iPhone to pair it with an Apple bluetooth keyboard, letting him use it to type on the device. (video after the break)

Safari+ Bookmarklets For Mobile Safari Let You Search Text, Translate, More

A new tool has been released for your iPhone and iPod Touch that use bookmarklets to add the same kind of functionality you can get with a desktop browser. iPhone Hacking: Enable Japanese Emoticons (AKA Emojicons) [Updated with simpler method]

Tips

Last week's 2.2 software update included quite a few goodies for most iPhone owners, but one in particular is only available to those in Japan. Unbeknownst to most of us in the States, Apple's added emojicons (or Japanese emoticons), although they're only available to customers in Japan. Thankfully Steven Troughton-Smith has figured out that a simple property list edit is all that's required. For the full instructions, read on.

You'll need a jailbroken iPhone and enough knowledge to grab the correct file, edit it properly, and put it back without pulling your hair out.

Demonstration Of External Keyboard For iPhone

When the iPhone was first announced, one of the main concerns was over the virtual keyboard. However, after having a chance to use it, it was discovered to be useful and intuitive. Of course, with anything in the tech world, there are always some complainers. One user decided to take matters into his own hands and hack his iPhone to work with an external keyboard. The keyboard attaches via the iPhone's dock connector and works just as well as any other keyboard.

iPhone 3G Unlocked Via SIM Card Hack

Four days after it's launched, the 3G iPhone has been "unlocked". Well, not exactly, but people have gotten it to work on other networks a special card that makes it think it's using an official carrier. It's not a software unlock yet, but it's a start. This is also the first unlock method for the first iPhone (that didn't involve opening it up and tinkering with hardware). Video after the break.

Dev Team Jailbreaks iPhone 2.0 Software [Update: 2.0 Unlocked]

Although not much information is available right now, the iPhone Dev Team has released screenshots proving that they have successfully jailbroken the iPhone 2.0 software. From the shots, it appears that both Installer and BootNeuter are up and running on the new OS. We also assume that this was accomplished using their pwnage tool, which is the Dev Team's preferred method for jailbreak these days.

The jailbreak method hasn't been released to the public yet, although we assume it won't be long. An unlock method is said to be still in the works.
