According to research firm comScore, America is beginning to catch up to Europe in the number of citizens that are subscribed to a high-speed 3G data network service thanks to the iPhone 3G. The firm reports that 28.4% of Americans right now currently have 3G devices, compared to an average 28.3% in the largest countries in Europe.

The iPhone 3G has been announced for Spanish carrier Movistar, but they still have yet to formally announce pricing for the devices or for the plans they will offer. Spanish website AppleSfera.com claims to have found a webpage on Movistar's site that lists pricing for the 8GB and 16GB iPhone 3G, as well as two plans they will allegedly be offering.

Telefonica has announced that they have received 300,000 pre-orders for the iPhone 3G in the U.K. and Spain combined. According to their spokesperson, customers have been reserving their iPhone 3G on the company's website ever since Telefonica announced that they would be offering it earlier this month. Telefonica was already the official carrier of the first generation of iPhone in the U.K. and Ireland as O2, and will be expanding this to Spain, the Czech Republic, and twelve Latin American countries on July 11.

You can't get around foreign policy and that's the end of it. Starting July 1st, Spain will add a €3.15 (around $4.90) tax on electronic devices capable of recording, copying or storing sound or images. The country will also add a €1.10 (around $1.70) tax on all mobile phones with integrated MP3 music capabilities such as the iPhone.
