Version 1.1 of the app, which allows users to track the positions of the International Space Station and Space Shuttle to see if you may be in the vicinity for a visible sighting opportunity of either one also introduces a high-resolution option for images and a sleep mode on/off toggle (so you can keep your device from going into sleep mode while you track launches). Both of these features can be configured in the iPhone's settings for the app.
A NASA scientist has successfully created a hardware accessory that turns an iPhone into a portable Wi-Fi connected chemical sniffer, capable of detecting small amounts of things like ammonia, chlorine gas and methane. The hardware add-on contains a chip with 16 nanosensors that detect particles from different vaporous substances, then transmitting that information on to the iPhone.
