Silicon Alley Insider reports that a "pluged-in" source inside the cellular business has information that the next iPhone 3G will have a "significantly faster" internet connection than it's predecessor. It is not known if the source was referring to Wi-Fi or the cellular data connection, but both could potentially be upgraded.
Leaked images of what is said to be the back of the next iPhone are circulating the web. Our friends over at the iPod Observer have posted a close-up of the back of an unreleased 16GB iPhone. It's a black matte color and shows Model No: A1303, a model number not listed on current iPhones.
Emirates Telecommunications - etisalat has announced plans to offer the iPhone 3G in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates some time in February. The announcement came in the form of a full-page advertisement on Gulf News. The deal will be Apple's first for that area, bringing the iPhone there for the first time.
AT&T announced today that despite the poor state the economy is in, the iPhone and iPhone 3G has continued to drive growth in company by drawing in new high-profit subscribers to their 2 year contracts. The company says they have activated .9 million new iPhones during the quarter, less than the previous 2.4mil for Q3, but still played a significant role.
Apple recently posted job listings for several positions hinting that the next iPhone might have more advanced 3.5G data capabilities. Listings for performance engineers in the areas of both analysis and testing that specialize in High Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA) have been posted.
AT&T's push to strengthen and expand their 3G network in the U.S. has caused their EDGE network to suffer, according to a report by Open for Business. The news isn't surprising, given that much of the improvements were made by switching their EDGE transmitters over to 3G.
The iPhone Dev Team has officially released their 3G unlock, code-named yellowsn0w, to the Cydia app installer, which if not already available, should be available for download as soon as they get their repository in order. They also explained the message from earlier today. Interestingly, the unlock is not only able to unlock the latest firmware build, but requires it to work.
