Apple Performs iMessage Maintenance, Delays and Failures Abound

As we had noted ourselves to find the same tune being sung by many iMessage users beginning this morning, iMessage has not been performing up to its usual par - unless you consider long message delivery delays and failures "normal." Many users have had to wait minutes for messages to successfully send, with some not being delivered at all.

Next iPhone To Have Touch Sensitive Back Plastic Case?

The next iPhone might be half Magic Mouse, according to Bloomberg analyst Robert Chen. He says that the next iPhone will not only have a touch-sensative screen on the front of the device, but will also have a multitouch surface on the back of the device as well, implemented in a similar way to Apple's Magic Mouse, which replaces mechanical buttons with a multitouch surface across the top of its plastic shell.

Patent: 3D Multitouch User Interface

A surprising patent from Apple released in December was just discovered that claims the ground around a 3D user interface on a mobile device. It describes a method for zooming and moving around in a 3D interface using multitouch controls. While the graphic depicts what would appear to be a simple 3D plane with 3D icons on a screen, the patent's text deals more with the core mechanics for using multiple figures simultaneously to navigate a virtual 3D space.

Apple Patent Points Towards Multitouch Tactile Keyboard for Future Devices

A recently-unearthed Apple patent application for a multitouch tactile keyboard reveals plans for a device that would feature a dynamic surface to help users keep track of their relative position on the board. Interestingly enough, the device's surface would incorporate an "articulating frame", which would raise and retract bumps in order to recreate the feel of typing on a conventional keyboard.
