If you haven't heard, EA's most highly anticipated game, Spore, has hit store shelves today. For those of you who remember the SDK event earlier this year, EA was one of the few developers Apple selected to demonstrate how powerful the iPhone is as a development platform. The game they chose was Spore, and they managed to get 18 levels ready in two weeks. Now that Spore for the PC & Mac has been released, EA has simultaneously released Spore Origins for the iPhone and iPod touch. Spore Origins, priced at $9.99, focuses on the early stages of Spore gameplay, consisting of the Evolution and Survival gameplay modes, which span 30 levels.
Game developer EA announced that Spore Origins will be released later this month for the iPhone and iPod touch, but they also announced plans for at least nine additional games as well. Other games coming to the iPhone this month from the company include Yahtzee Adventures, EA Mini Golf, Lemonade Tycoon, Mahjong, Monopoly: Here & Now The World Edition, SimCity, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09, Need for Speed Undercover and The Sims 3. They did not offer a schedule for their release. [via Macworld]
The highly anticipated Spore Origins already found its way to the iPod a while back, and creator Will Wright says that it will be making it's way to the App Store some time this week. The game starts you off as a microbe, and as you grow and eat you evolve into a bigger creature that can eat even bigger creatures, and the cycle continues.
Over at E3, TUAW got a chance to take a look of Spore: Origins, EA's highly anticipated upcoming game for the iPhone, which will be available in the App Store September 7th. Like most games for the iPhone these days, navigation is controlled by the accelerometers via tilting. Early gameplay involves swimming around and eating to level up, which lets you customize your character.
