How about kicking off your Independence Day week (or rather, weekend… Wednesday’s festivities will carry over until Monday) early with some of the best deals we have seen to date this year on a number of the App Store’s hottest new releases. There are almost as many games as fireworks
Just as it was announced earlier this week, Gameloft today released their highly anticipated first person shooter, N.O.V.A. - Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance [App Store, $6.99]. Set in a time after Earth is no longer able to sustain life, humans now live on large artificial satellites called "near-orbitals." When a missing Marine ship turns up, heading towards the alliance, ignoring communications, you're put in the shoes of a retired Marine hero who must try to prevent mankind's annihilation.
In true Halo style, the game features both a single-player campaign and a multiplayer mode. The single player features 13 levels which take place in 5 different environments, six weapons, and "intense drama." Multiplayer deathmatch mode is available online or locally over WiFi or Bluetooth and can be played across five different maps.
A new trailer from Gameloft today announced that its highly anticipated first person shooter NOVA will be released this Thursday, December 17th. NOVA continues Gameloft's tradition of ripping off popular console games—in this case, Halo—and creating iPhone games that are actually quite appealing. The game will feature many of the same features as Halo, such as a "single-campaign" style main game which takes place on alien worlds, multiplayer (over WiFi and Bluetooth), and tons of alien enemies. It'll also feature some nice stuff a la iPhone, including voice chat, iPod access, and push notifications.
The game's been getting lots of attention since its announcement this September, although this is the first we've heard about it. The new trailer—which we highly recommend checking out—gives a nice overview of the game. Check it out below!
