Candian Networks Working On Cross-Network Video Calling

When it comes to video calling over a cellular network, Canada has been surprisingly ahead of the curve. Rogers has had it since April of 2007 for making calls within their own network, and Bell and Telus got intra-network video calling in 2009 when they created their HSDPA+ networks. Despite this, it hasn't yet become mainstream with the public. Now they're hoping that enabling them to make video calls between networks will finally make it popular with the cool kids once and for all.

Bell Launches HSPA+ 4G Network, iPhone-Based Calling Plans

Canadian wireless carrier Bell today launched its HSPA+ network and its first devices, including the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G. The network supports up to 21Mbps downstream on the Novatel Wireless U998 ($75) and future modems that support HSPA+ and should also supply as much as 7.2Mbps for the iPhone 3GS and other current smartphones.

Bell, Telus Launching HSPA+ 3G Networks This Week

When the iPhone hits the other Canadian carriers, users will at least have a speedy network to jump onto. Wireless carrier Bell today confirmed that the company will launch its awaited HSPA+ 3G network on November 4th. The 21Mbps network will launch just a day ahead of its Telus equivalent and should come with multiple phones and modems ready on the same day. Roaming deals will also be in effect immediately and should let Bell users roam on AT&T in the US as well as in most other countries.

Telus, Bell and Rogers Announce New/Updated iPhone Plans for Canadian Market

For our Canadian readers, wireless carriers Telus and Bell have announced pricing and availability for the iPhone 3G and 3GS while current carrier Rogers has updated its iPhone plan pricing. Telus has announced that it is offering four plan levels with three extras each to chose from, for a total of twelve different plan options. Each plan provides subsidized iPhone pricing of $99CAD for the 8GB iPhone 3G (black), $199CAD for the 16GB iPhone 3G S (black/white), and $299CAD for the 32GB iPhone 3G S (black/white).

Telus to Launch HSPA+, iPhone 3GS on November 5th

Canadian wireless carrier revealed on Monday that both its HSPA+ network and its iPhone launch will kick off on November 5th and has provided device pricing for its version of the Apple handset. Per Electronista, pricing will match the Rogers version and see 16GB and 32GB iPhone 3GS units cost $200 and $300 respectively on three-year contracts. Contract-free versions will sell for $700 and $800. The 8GB iPhone 3G will sell for $100 on contract or $600 contract-free.

Rumor: Canadian Provider Bell to Start Carrying iPhone in Early November

Canadian wireless carrier Bell should start carrying Apple's iPhone handset near the very start of November and feature similar device and price planning as seen on current Canadian iPhone sources. Per Electronista, sources familiar with the plans say the iPhone 3GS and 3G are both due to arrive on November 4th, which should also mark the formal start of the Canadian provider's HSPA-based 3G network. The news is corroborated by earlier word of Telus training ending at the same time and suggests Bell and Telus will have their networks and iPhone sales ready at the same time.

Telus, Bell Canada to Become iPhone Carriers in Canada

iPhone users up north looking for additional choices will soon be able to move beyond Rogers Wireless, as carriers Bell Canada and Telus have struck deals with Apple, ending the exclusive arrangement Rogers enjoyed since the combination iPod and smartphone first launched in the country. Per The Mac Observer, both carriers are set to begin offering iPhone service in November, and that they will sell both the iPhone 3G and the iPhone 3GS. Neither has offered information about pricing plans.
