Watch ESPN Anywhere With New iPhone App

ESPN’s new application allows users to watch sports on the go. WatchESPN is now available to iPhone owners in the app store, and allows live access to ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPNU, as well as the Web channel ESPN3.com. Downloading the app is free, but you must be an existing cable TV customer with Time Warner Cable, Bright House Networks, or Verizon Fios for it to work. The WatchESPN App Store page promises that more TV providers will be added in the future.

“Innovation continues to drive ESPN,” George Bodenheimer, president of ESPN, Inc. and ABC Sports, said in a statement. “When we launched in 1979, nobody envisioned a day when people would carry ESPN in their pockets. But here we are. And we’ve reached this watershed moment for the industry through tremendous collaboration with forward-thinking partners.”

WatchESPN is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. It requires iOS 4.0 or later. Monday Night Football is not available through the app, but WatchESPN includes everything else including the NBA, Major League Baseball, golf, college sports and regular ESPN shows like PTI and SportsCenter.
