TurboSIM Successfully Unlocks Un-Bricked iPhones

in

As we reported yesterday, a method has been found for un-bricking iPhones that bricked after being unlocked and installing the firmware update, but some functionality was still lost. Now, there has been a method of unlocking found that restores all of the functionality to the device exactly the way it was before the update.

Some of you may recall the TurboSIM hack, one of the earlier methods for unlocking the iPhone that involves a small hardware addition to the SIM card of choice. Gizmodo's Jesus Diaz got the idea to try this hack again on an iPhone that had been un-bricked, and miraculously, it worked just fine. He can make and receive calls, use SMS, and surf the internet. It all seems to be working just fine.

TurboSIM

Has anyone tried the TurboSIM with 1.1.1? I'm currently on 1.02 with a software unlock so won't be upgrading anytime soon, but I still have my TurboSIM left over from my first unlock. Anyway, its great to hear that if you bricked your phone, and you are fortunate enough to have a TurboSIM, no more sleepless nights!

I think turbosim still works

TurboSIM

All this got me thinking about my TurboSIM and I did some research into what else this thing could do. I was pleasantly surprised at the power of this little thing. I removed the AppleSaft application from the TSIM from my previous hardware unlock and installed the FakeSim application. Guess what? I now have my Vodafone AND Optus sims co-existing together on my iPhone! I can now choose which provider I wish to use. When I go into my FakeSim menu I have the options Default and Optus. I can select activate on either and watch the carrier logo switch from Vodofone to Optus in about 5 seconds (and back to Vodafone when I choose Default). I have tested and can confirm I can make and receive calls on either service (not at the same time though ) I guess you could add as many as you like? This is where I found the info:

It looks like some more work needs to be done on it i.e. it would be cool if you could operate them both at the same time (not sure? maybe the system would have to automatically switch back and forth every few seconds?). But I would like to see more development going on with those who have the TSIM in their iPhones!
