True Move Announces 3G Deal In Thailand
True Move, Thailand’s third largest wireless carrier, claims to have signed a deal with Apple to bring the iPhone 3G to their country. If true, the deal would make the carrier the first to bring the iPhone to the Thai market, which is quickly expanding.
“True Move has signed an agreement with Apple to bring the iPhone 3G to Thailand in the coming months,” True Move said in a statement.
There has been no mention of a launch date, but True Move is currently still in the process of testing their 3G networks. Those of you in Thailand that aren’t partial to True Move will also be happy to hear that Apple’s deal with the company is not an exclusive one, according to the country’s largest carrier, Advanced Info Service (AIS) ADVA.BK:
“Apple is talking with every operator, including us and DTAC. When will we sell iPhone? It depends on when we can reach a deal with Apple on terms and conditions,” said Somchai Lertsuttiwong, AIS’s executive vice president for marketing.
The announcement is nonetheless good news for those waiting for an official launch, but that ‘s not to say that before this it was unavailable. Customers looking for iPhone 3Gs could find them in Bangkok’s MBK centre, a place abundant with pirated goods.
