The New Apple Campus
Steve Jobs has dubbed the plans for the new Apple Campus as the “Spaceship”. Earlier this year Apple purchase 150 acres from HP in Cupertino, CA. The main building will house approximately 12,000 employees. The ring shaped headquarters will be an “architectural landmark” says, Jobs. As he describes what the building, he says, “There is not a straight piece of glass in this building, it’s all curved. We used our experience making retail buildings all over the world now, and we know how to make the biggest pieces of glass in the world for architectural use. And, we want to make the glass specifically for this building here. We can make it curve all the way around the building… It’s pretty cool.”
In addition to the new building, Jobs also wants to add twice as many trees on the grounds as well as plant and foster an apricot orchard like the one he had nearby during his childhood. The site will be fueled by natural gas as well as other more efficient and cleaner fuels.
Apple will break ground next year and plans to move into the new Apple Campus by 2015.
