‘Temple Run 2′ Downloaded Over 20m Times in Four Days
Imangi Studios’ Temple Run took mobile gaming by storm when it was released back in August 2011. Since then, it’s received numerous updates, has been made available on Android, and has become a free-to-play game, only a month after its release.
That’s when the game really took off, as Temple Run has received over 170 million downloads since Imangi Studios last reported on its progress.
Temple Run 2 was released on iOS last week and has been dominating the App Store as it reached the top spot in the Free category. Imangi Studios has finally unveiled just how popular Temple Run 2 has been so far, and the numbers are impressive.
In its first 24 hours of being released, Temple Run 2 received over six million downloads as it only took eight hours for the game to make its way to the #1 spot in the App Store’s Free category.
The game’s first weekend was also very good as Temple Run 2 was downloaded over 20 million times within those four days. In total, Temple Run 2 players have already accumulated 210 million game sessions, which roughly equates to 1,775 years of gameplay just within four days of being available.
“The response from fans has been overwhelming,” says Keith Shepherd, co-founder of Imangi in a statement. “We are thrilled players want more of the Temple Run universe, and we hope to grow and expand the game over the coming months.”
We know Imangi Studios’ Temple Run will never reach the level of popularity Rovio’s Angry Birds did, but it isn’t fair to compare the two games since they’re completely different titles.
Even though it won’t ever reach that level of popularity, we’re still rooting for the game to do well and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with being considered second to Angry Birds, especially when millions of downloads are already being achieved in just its opening weekend.
