Telia Sonera Changes iPhone 3G Plans Due To Customer Complaints

Just as we thought the announcements of iPhone 3G plans were rapping up, one of them had to go back and start changing things. Telia Sonera announced their plans for the iPhone 3G last month, and apparently the Swedes weren't too happy about them. Fortunately, after a large outpouring of complaints from customers, the company has revised their plans.

It's understandable why they would be upset. Their baseline plan, called the "iMini" plan, was to cost 299 kr/month (roughly US$50) for just 100MB data, 100 voice minutes, and 100 SMS. The next plan would cost 489kr (about US$82) for just 250MB data, 250 voice and 250SMS, and to get a whole 1GB of data would cost 859, or US$144.13 a month, and was bundled with 1000 voice minutes and 1000 SMS. Unlimited data was available, but involved a customer shelling out another 199 kr/month (around $34) on top of one of the above plans.

Well, this doesn't make much sense to us, and neither did it to the people of Sweden. As a result, Telia Sonera has announced that iPhone 3G customers will now have the option of choosing between any of their voice and SMS plans available to their normal cellphones and tacking on the 199kr unlimited data plan.

This is definitely good news for the people of Sweden. Hopefully other companies will follow suit and give iPhone buyers a break. Petitions against Rogers Wireless, AT&T, and Telia Denmark are also underway. (Let us know in the comments if you know about more!)

They didn't change anything, they just didn't announce the other avalible plans in the beginning, they even wrote that you could choose from other plans from the start.

I hope rogers will follow, I wanna use my gen one phone on thier new data plan. If I can manage to pull some strings with customer relations it'd be sick

It's exactly the same with Rogers. Just because you're getting an iPhone doesn't mean you have to get an iPhone plan. You can use any voice and data plans available for windows mobile devices.

No, I think they DID change.

Well, I don't know about that. I send an email to customer service asking about the first set of plans, although the Telia person responding (still before the new plans were announced) told me that the information on the website wasn't accurate, they were ONLY going to sell iPhone together with one of the 3 special (aka MegaBucks) iPhone plans. 12 hours later, they announced the new plans (!)

I've got it confiremed from other posts here: http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/new...ns-for-sweden/

No, they did not change, The original iPhone web page at telia.se said right from the beginning that ordinary plans could be used and that they would be available later.

This is a screenshot of the original iPhone page that I took when it first was published. It says (in Swedish): "Du kan anv?nda iPhone med andra abonnemang fr?n Telia men d? rekommenderar vi att du tecknar Prisavtal Fastpris."

This whole story is false.

I always regret complaining about AT&T when I read what other countries have been dealt.

I can't believe we haven't heard about Jobs beating anybody up yet.

Well, I suppose complaining is the only option (although reading all the complaining in the message boards gets pretty tiresome). However, it's not like you can take your business elsewhere if you want the iPhone ... you're stuck with AT&T. Can't wait unitl the exclusivity contract runs out, whenever that might be.

fuck the plans

who cares about monthly fees. what is really pissing me off is that jobs said, the 3G iPhone will be sold on july 11th worldwide for just 200 bucks, and then they come and put like almoust 3000 sek pricetag on the shit, without thinking that 200 bucks is barely 1200 sek.

I feel very cheated, not necessarily by jobs, cause you know he is the almighty, but by telia, for being little moneygrabing bitches
