Telekinesis: View your Mac on your iPhone

in

Looking for some super-sweet apps to use on your brand new iPhone? This one looks to be the sweetest of them all. Telekinesis is one of the first (in my opinion) killer Ajax applications for your iPhone. Why do they call it Telekinesis? Essentially this application will allow you to not only remotely control your Mac right from iPhone, but you can also browse files, keep an eye out with the built-in iSight, and even use iPhone as a Wi-Fi remote for Front Row. Best of all, it's an open "platform" which allows you to make your own telekinetic apps. I know, SWEET.

The way it works is by downloading the iPhone Remote desktop application and running it on your Mac. You then choose a user name and password, and you're all set. Pick up an iPhone, browse to the Mac you want to control using Safari and you're prompted with a screen like this:

At this point the applications are fairly buggy, at least that's what I've found in my initial tests. The developers aren't done with though, as this is actually an Alpha (as in pre-beta) build. Screen viewing seems to work as well as some clicking, but nothing more than that. File browsing is pretty nifty, although you cannot listen to MP3's or watch MOV's at this time. I assume that will be coming soon. The Front Row remote doesn't work well for me, but it will play, pause, and skip tracks. I'm not sure how they've managed to get the camera working without flash, and it's a really neat idea. Again, I haven't gotten it to work, but I'm sure they plan to get it going properly soon.

We'll keep you posted on this apps development!
