Software Unlock for 1.1.2 OTB and 1.1.3 iPhones Complete

in

It's finally here! George Hotz, the man who first unlocked the iPhone is back with a full software unlock for OTB 1.1.2 and upgraded 1.1.3 iPhones. According to his blog, George worked for nearly 24 hours looking for a way to unlock iPhones that came pre-loaded with the latest software update. These phones have been a problem for those looking to unlock as they came with a new bootloader which kept the current unlocking methods from working. George's findings represent a major accomplishment for those wishing to use the iPhone with unapproved carriers.

The method used, unlike others in the past, is very simple to implement. Only a few steps are required to perform the unlock, although a fully expanded guide has not been released. It is very likely that, pending community testing, an application will be released which easily performs the unlock using his method.

George's Instructions:

1. Download these:
gunlock and the secpack from http://iphonejtag.blogspot.com/ or the blog :)
the 4.02.13 fls from http://george.zjlotto.com/index.php/baseband/

2. Downgrade your phone to 1.0.2. See all the great tutorials online to do this.
Your baseband won't be downgraded, this is normal.
This will probably work on other versions too, but 1.0.2 doesn't lose wifi on bb access.

3. Kill CommCenter and run "gunlock secpack ICE04.02.13_G.fls"

4. Reload CommCenter. For some reason my phone was in brick mode. Use the elite team bricktool to get out.

5. Enjoy your 1.1.2 OTB unlocked iPhone

Now who'd have thought it'd be this easy :)

Thanks to akelly1979 for the tip!

This might be a bad question but...

Does this method speed up the process to get a reliable jailberak for users with an authentic ATT contract who do not wish to unlock but rather run third party apps?

Thanks guys!

Actually, if you have a legit AT&T account you should be able to jailbreak in 1.1.3 just fine. Earlier versions of the jailbreak assumed you had an unlocked phone and patched the lockdownd accordingly. Use the method described here to jailbreak your iPhone. Make sure to say "No" when it asks if you'd like to patch the lockdownd.

Really? Even if my phone was accidentally updated to 1.1.3 via itunes? I thought if you had updated your phone that way, you were pretty much screwed! last time i tried to jailbreak it from that state, I got the "uknown sim" error... I am assuming that the reason was that I was moved up to the 4_3 bb from the 4_2 bb but then again, I guess I could give it another try.

Thanks Michael!
