Russia Has iPhone 3G But No App Store
Russia got the iPhone 3G on October 3rd under MTS, Vimpelcom, and MegaFon, the country’s largest carriers, but they still have a lot of waiting to do before they get access to the iTunes Store. While the agreement between the carriers and Apple was reached, an agreement on App Store access has yet to be reached.
According to Billboard, content providers are demanding to be paid according to local item values.
MegaFon’s Vasily Kuzichev explains: “The biggest problem at this point is that content in Russia is more expensive than in some other countries and the prices iTunes is considering for content in this country doesn’t satisfy copyright owners, who think they are too low,” he said.
In the meantime Apple has created a Russian iTunes App Store portal for iPhone owners to use.
