Pwnage Tool, QuickPwn For 2.2 Released

Those of you waiting for a jailbreak and/or unlock solution for the new 2.2 firmware will be happy to know that the Dev Team just posted updated versions of the Pwnage Tool and QuickPwn for the iPhone and iPod touch that will let you update your OS to version 2.2 without altering the baseband. Be warned, however, that you should only use QuickPwn if you don't want to unlock later. They strongly suggest reading everything they have to say before using either tool though, so rather than link to their downloads I'm going suggest you read their post instead. Downloads available there.
Thanks, Joshua!

I am also hosting the Mac programs PwnageTool and Quickpwn at my site (links on the info page).

I just posted the 1st gen unlock guide for PwnageTool. I also just posted the 1st gen guide for QuickPwn. I'm working on updating all other PwnageTool and QuickPwn guides at present.

I'm so thoroughly disappointed with Apple's firmware 2.2 update that it's yet another reminder why I and many others jailbreak their iPhones.

That's pretty weird. I upgraded to 2.2 through iTunes yesterday and I just used QuickPwn to jailbreak it again. After trying to jailbreak it, my iPhone kept trying to reboot, then when it would turn on a white screen appears for less than a second and it tries to boot up again. I've been jailbreaking my iPhone since the first jailbreak was released and I've never had a problem. I guess I'll just have to restore through iTunes and try again...

What's the problem? So far my experience with 2.2 has been pretty great.

I haven't experienced any bugs. My comment was more directed to the fact Apple provided little in this update. Without jailbreaking we still don't have any improvements to the camera (ie: video recording, etc), still no tethering, still no copy/paste, no way to send vCards from "Contacts" without using a third party paid solution, still unable to sync "Notes" with OS X and still no landscape typing for Email and SMS. Also MMS is available on the most basic of cellphones yet we don't have this useful feature unless we jailbreak the iPhone and even then we have to pay for it (ie: SwirlyMMS). The iPhone has potential but only if Apple is willing to develop features their customers have asked for since the first iPhone was released over a year ago. If they don't then they'll find more customers either jailbreaking or jumping ship to a competitor's smartphone such as the Blackberry Bold, Sony Ericsson Xperia or HTC Touch Pro.

Anyway, for any of those who are considering jailbreaking I confirmed with the developer that iPhoneModem 2.0 and Cycorder (found in Cydia) works with firmware 2.2. I haven't got a chance to test Winterboard and Snapture but will post back if I experience any issues.

Found a bug

Ever since 2.0.2 I could plug my iPhone into my 2006 Scion xB's stock stereo and play and access the ipod funtion. This no longer works; well I guess it kind of works. I can play the music, but it no longer plays it through the car speakers, just the built in iPhone speakers. Also when I used to switch to the tuner on the car stereo it would automatically pause the iPhone, so when I switched back it would pick up where I left off. Now it just keeps playing on the little built in speakers. Since I always jailbreak I'm not sure if this was broken in 2.2.0 or if it has something to do with it being jailbroken, but if the is not fix soon I'm going back.
