Private-I Tricks Thieves Into Giving Away iPhone’s Location

Concerned about iPhone theft? A new app called Private-I was released recently that relies on the relative stupidity of most criminals to trick them into revealing your iPhone’s location. The app shows up on the home screen with the word “Private” on it with the idea that they’ll get curious and press it to see what’s inside that you don’t want them to know about.

When they launch it, a screen comes up that says “accessing pictures”, but what it really does is find the device’s location using triangulation or GPS and emails you with the coordinates.

It’s clever, but if you really have concerns about someone pilfering your iPhone, you might want to take stronger measures to ensure it’s safety. If you’re still interested, you can get Private-I in the App Store for $0.99.
