Patent: Always-On Alert Display Behind LDC Screen For iPhone
An Apple patent filing has been published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark office that details a new notification system for the iPhone and iPod. While devices like the Blackberry have a small red light that turns on to let them know when they’ve missed a call, iPhone owners have to wake the device and turn on the display to see if a new call has come in. This should solve that problem.
The document proposes a second backlight that would display small graphical alerts and other messages while the main LCD screen isn’t in use. The second backlight would be behind transparent spots in the main LCD screen. They also mention using size, shape and color for different meanings.
