Pastebud Offers Copy And Paste Using Safari Bookmarks

There have been a small handful of projects that aimed to finally fill the gaping void left by Apple when they didn’t add copy and paste to the iPhone, but so far none have managed to deliver. Now Pastebud is giving it a try, and like many of the others, it’s a start.

Pastebud has a few advantages over some of the other options that we’ve seen in that it’s legal and you don’t need to jailbreak your iPhone or even install anything to use it. The downside, as you may have guessed, is that it’s functionality is pretty limited. It only works with the two applications that they say need copy and paste the most– Mail and Safari.

It’s a web-based solution that uses “javascript bookmarks and web services”. The app uses two Safari bookmarks. One of them loads the page in Safari that you’re viewing in a way that let’s you select text with your finger. That text can then be used to create a new mail message, or copy it into a text field on a different webpage.

Jed Schmidt, creator of Pastebud, says that they are currently “putting the finishing touches on the website before launch.”
