Otterbox Announces Defender Case For iPhone 3G

Otterbox has announced that their Defender series protective case is now available for the iPhone 3G. For those of you who aren’t familiar, the Defender is a heavy-duty case for when a normal case isn’t enough, offering three layers of protection against things like dirt, scratches and impacts.

  • Layer 1: Patented polycarbonate membrane protects against scratches and dust intrusion while allowing for full use of the screen
  • Layer 2: Hi-impact polycarbonate shell
  • Layer 3: Silicone skin to absorb impact and provide tactile feel

They’ve made a few improvements with the 3G case based on suggestions from users of the original for the first generation iPhone (check out our review of it), such as easy access to the silence switch, better screen access and a better all-around feel. It still offers the same degree of access to syncing/charging, home, sleep/wake, volume, camera and headphone jack. The microphone and speakers are protected form debris with acoustical vents, and it includes a holster-style swivel belt clip that converts into a display stand when device is inserted with the screen facing out.

The black model is currently available at for $49.95. A black and yellow model and a white model will be available soon. They will also be offering a pink “Strength” model in which 10% will go to the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade.
