OS 3.0 Bug Making App Icons Dissapear, Switch Apps

A strange bug has been causing trouble for some iPhone OS 3.0 users. We haven't seen it ourselves yet, but several users on Apple's discussion boards are reporting strange problems with app icons being either blank white squares, switching icons with other apps, or disappearing altogether. TUAW confirmed the strange bug when their own Mel Martin had the AT&T Navigator app and Reuters News icon switch places. One developer says issues like these were highly common in the beta releases, and weren't fixed until the final release of the software.

Yup, I've had that issue. Currently TwitterFon is showing up as some coffee finder app. Under 3.0 beta, it eventually sorted itself out.

Having that issue. I just do a restore to fix it.
Very annoying.

My son plugged it in to his Mac to sync it, and all his apps disappeared. This is after noticing last night that the "Q" and "1" keys are dead. Should we wait, or just take it in for a new one?

Yeah I'm glad I'm not the only one... my Hero of Sparta app's icon uses the Bionic Surfer lites icon. I attempted to reset the iPhone but to no avail. I also tried to delete and then redownload the app and still no luck. Funny thing is I delete Bionic Surfer lite before I downloaded Hero of Sparta. don't care LOVE ME SOME 3.0!

I would do a complete Restore and go from there. It sounds like a software issue and if you take it to an Apple Store all they're going to do is restore it.

I have heard about apps disappearing but I'm happy I havent experienced this. But I have noticed my push notifications dont work all the time.

Developer 3.0 had this like no tomorrow.

My apps would come and go even with the "final" 3.0 but when I updates on line these problems went away, on my 3g and never have seem then yet on my 3gs.

Here's a temporary fix that worked for me. It has step by step instructions and doesn't require a restore which is nice. Apple needs to fix this pronto!

I have a 3G and a new 3GS. I've update the 3G to 3.0 and have not seen this problem. Now with my 3GS it has cropped up the day after I started installing Apps on it.

in my contacts, all the pictures for people are switched. a photo of my dad pops up when a friend calls. looking further into it i noticed that all photos are now wrong. and 3G and wi-fi still cut in and out.
