Official Wikipedia App Released, All Open-Source
Since the App Store first launched, we’ve seen several applications that attempt to put Wikipedia on your iPhone. Now, the Wikimedia Foundation has released an official Wikipedia application to the app store. It doesn’t store data on the device, but it provides a new interface for accessing the online information as an alternative to the mobile version of the website.
There aren’t many bells and whistles with this app; it provides one basic function: browsing and searching Wikipedia. You can view your history to see what pages and files you’ve opened. It emphasizes “being very simple and very fast,” and is “100% open source and community built”. As such, they welcome any developers who want to help improve the application to do so.
Wikipedia Mobile is available in the App Store for free.
